Daddy Jumping to Junior Farrell's Defense. Surprise, Surprise!!
I couldn't agree more with the term "CIRCUS". World Rugby (IRB), the RFU & Six Nations have brought this circus upon themselves. They are supposed to serve the rugby playing world, the greater UK rugby audience and all of Europe's rugby fraternity, respectively. It has taken a circus to get any type of action from the IRB.
Owen Farrell is a gifted rugby player, of that there can be no doubt. As a supporter of anyone playing England, it pains me to grudgingly admit this, but he is definitely cut from a different cloth to most. He has a nasty streak however, and he has a definite flaw in his defensive technique, which has landed him in trouble before, and, unless he fixes it, will land him in trouble again, if it doesn't cause a very serious injury to a fellow professional. The woes befalling him now are but a fraction of the times he has gotten away Scott-free. One thinks back to the tackle on Andre Esterhuysen in the dying seconds, at Twickenham, in November 2018, where he was declared a hero of the nation for that no wrap, match winning, assault.
Owen Farrell is a protected species, and therein lies the problem. Johnny Sexton, rightly, got a ban for a heat-of-the-moment profanity, in a very tense game. How is that deemed worse than Farrell's string of bad tackles. Daddy is defending him. Coaches are defending him. Referees, TMOs & Citing officers are turning a blind eye. Disciplinary panels are defending him and it stinks to high heaven. That is what is disgusting, Andy Farrell. The protection your boy has received for the last 6 years, from every corner, is what's disgusting. If you had stamped it out when it first started doing it, or when you worked with England when he started in the team, we wouldn't have needed to be here in this circus. It is a circus of the system's own making. The paying public keep these guys employed. The game has become greedy beyond reproach and those with big purses are destroying the game. Bankrupt clubs with generations of history. Leagues and international teams being stripped of playing assets by those few with an unlimited cheque books. The disciplinary people are under pressure to keep the stars on the pitch. The backlash from the public around the world, has been astonishing. Even the usually blinkered home fans have voted against the disgraceful findings. I have never seen the rugby world as united as they are over this decision.
So, Daddy Farrell, if it takes a few clowns like yourself, and the disciplinary panel on Tuesday, to get the Ring Master to see their money-game is being seen-through, then bring on the circus. Too long those lofty toffs, like Bill Beaumont, have looked down their noses at the plebian fans. This is their "let them eat cake" moment and, for once, the IRB has done the right thing. Hooray!!
